Dr. Grace Mahoney (she/her) joins IRWG’s staff as the Institute’s inaugural Postdoctoral Research Fellow. Grace holds a PhD in Slavic Languages and Literatures from the University of Michigan specializing in Ukrainian and Russian literature and cultural history. Her dissertation examines the dynamics of building national literary culture through monuments and museums in imperial contexts. She is particularly interested in women’s roles as cultural agents and curators especially at the intersections of national, social, and women’s liberation movements.

In addition to her research, Grace pursues work in translation, publishing, and curation. She is the series editor of the Lost Horse Press Contemporary Ukrainian Poetry Series. She has translated A Field of Foundlings by Iryna Starovoyt (2017) and A Ukrainian Dictionary of War compiled by Ostap Slyvynsky (2024). She is a co-editor of the Krytyka forum on Race and Post Colonialism in Ukraine and North America. As IRWG’s Graduate Fellow for Exhibits (2022-2024), Grace curated several exhibitions, including ‘I have a crisis for you’: Women Artists of Ukraine Respond to War with Dr. Jessica Zychowicz (2022).
