Faculty-Led Program Areas Have a New Name & Approaching Deadline

Faculty led programs are now IRWG Incubators
Faculty led programs are now IRWG Incubators

November 7, 2022

In response to the changing needs of our community, IRWG has been rethinking some of our long standing programs. Faculty-Led Program Areas will now have an annual call and an initial program period of two years with the possibility of renewal.

They also have a newly defined purpose, are open to all IRWG Affiliates, and offer new financial flexibility (see below for details).

To signal that these changes are happening, we’re also changing the name of this program to IRWG Incubators to better reflect their primary purpose of catalyzing conversations and growing new research ideas across U-M.

IRWG Incubators provide structure for a focused, collective examination of a particular area or topic related to women, gender, and/or sexuality. Priority will be given to proposals that gather faculty together around a previously underfunded or emerging research area and that promises to energize a group of scholars at the University of Michigan in diverse and inclusive ways.

Any IRWG affiliate is eligible to request $500 to $7,500 for up to 2 years (renewals are permitted). Funding may be used to support activities in a wide variety of formats, including (but not limited to) reading or working groups, seminar series or workshops for a core audience of researchers, or a symposium built around a research agenda. The deadline to apply has been extended to January 25, 2023.

Recent recipients have included:

  • Black Feminist Health Studies (BFHS)
  • Colonialism, Race, and Sexualities Initiative (CRSI)
  • Consortium for Gender Responsive Prisoner Healthcare
  • Initiative on Gender Based Violence and Sexual Harassment
  • Insurance Justice Research Project
  • Lesbian-Gay-Queer Research Initiative (LGQRI)
  • Sustainable Health Activities Research Program
  • Transgender Health Research Network
