Lisa Fedina

Associate Professor of Social Work

Dr. Lisa Fedina (she/her) is an associate professor at the School of Social Work. Her research investigates the connections between forms of violence across the lifespan (e.g., child maltreatment, intimate partner violence, sexual assault), health and mental health outcomes. Her current studies examine risk and protective factors for campus sexual assault and profiles of victimization and suicide risk among emerging adults. She is particularly interested in understanding how social policies and structural factors lead to inequalities in violence and health, and improving the criminal justice and healthcare system’s response to gender-based violence. Fedina’s research has been funded by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the National Institute on Aging, and the National Institute of Justice at the U.S. Department of Justice. Her research has been published in top peer-reviewed journals (e.g., American Journal of Public Health, Annual Review of Clinical Psychology) and has been featured in outlets such as USA Today and Psychology Today. Fedina has served on local and federal task forces to develop policy guidance on issues related to violence, including the White House Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual Assault. Her social work practice background is in community organizing, policy advocacy and direct services to survivors of sexual assault, intimate partner violence and human trafficking.
