Charles Lwanga

Assistant Professor (Tenure-track) of Musicology

My current research in ethnomusicology (the study of culture from a music lens) engages with the intersection of music and politics in Uganda, where the rights of assemblage, association, and the freedom of expression are constantly breached by the very state apparatus that should protect them in the first place. Along this topic, I am also actively engaged in the interrogation of music’s role in articulating, and mediating the social aspirations of Uganda’s emergent LGBTIQ community.
