Film, Television and Media (FTVM) and Digital Studies Institute (DSI)

Yvette Granata is Assistant Professor in the Department of Film, Television, and Media and the Digital Studies Institute. She is a media artist and scholar interested in digital media art, immersive and extended realities, machinic environments, feminist AI, fembots, and the post-cinematic image. She creates immersive media installations, virtual reality (VR) films, video art, interactive environments, and hypothetical technological systems – all grounded in feminist approaches to technology.
Her interactive VR film I Took a Lethal Dose of Herbs (2023) is among the first immersive works to address postpartum psychosis and DIY abortion. Drawn from a true story shared on Reddit, it follows a former anti-abortion activist through hallucination and flashback after a psychotic break and a failed herbal abortion. The work premiered at CPH:DOX and received an Honorable Mention at Prix Ars Electronica, the Jury Award at the One World International Film Festival in Prague, and was selected for the VR competition at the Annecy International Animation Festival. It has been exhibited at venues including Art*VR at DOX Centre for Contemporary Art (Prague), NK Interactive at the Radvila Palace Museum (Vilnius), the Torino Film Market, PES Futures (New York), and CTRL Gallery (Los Angeles).

As a scholar, she writes about media theory, digital culture, and feminist critiques of artificial intelligence.
