Lecturer II English/ English Dept Writing Program
Angelé Anderfuren (she/her) is an award-winning multimedia journalist, writer, commercial director/ producer/ editor, blogger, social media manager, strategic communicator, teacher, higher education professional with enthusiasm for her work and passion for higher education. Angelé has more than two decades of experience as a digital, multi-platform project writer, producer and manager plus more than a decade of higher education leadership and development experience and is dedicated to helping people tell their own stories on their own terms.
Angelé was honored with the University of Michigan’s “Ben Prize for Outstanding Teaching of Writing” in April of 2026. In May 2026, she created and lead a brand new study abroad program in Portugal for UM’s Center for Global and Intercultural Study (CGIS), which is also now scheduled to repeat in 2027! The program is two-fold. First, on campus in Ann Arbor from January to April, she teaches students the essentials of being a responsible tourist and travel writer. Then in May, we conduct a 3-week long additional travel writing class in Lisbon. In this multimedia storytelling course, students visited must-see places plus unique finds in-and-around Portugal’s colorful capital Lisbon, then write and publish travel stories for Travel Muse Magazine and their Instagram.
In 2025, Angelé was promoted to Lecturer II at the University of Michigan, where she teaches in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts (LSA) English Department Writing Program (EDWP) in Ann Arbor, where she joined the faculty in August 2021. She teaches writing courses on travel writing, food/culture, and exploring community… all helping students become better writers, understand writing best practices, and become part of the Wolverine community.
Other points of pride for Angelé while at UM: being selected as a 2024 Michigan Road Scholar and being awarded an inclusive teaching grant to further expand her decade-plus long name stories project, developing the “University of Michigan Name Stories Project.”
