Carmel Price

Associate Professor of Sociology

Sociology, Behavioral Sciences

Dr. Carmel Price is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Michigan – Dearborn. She received her BA in elementary education and psychology from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; her MSW from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana; and her PhD in sociology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She has spent time as a elementary school teacher, a social worker focused on gender-based violence, and an AmeriCorps volunteer. Dr. Price’s current research touches on themes of environmental justice, public health, poverty, food systems, and gender; she frequently engages in community-based participatory research and she has published in peer-reviewed journals such as Population Research and Policy Review, Journal of Family Issues, Interdisciplinary Studies in Literature and the Environment, and Analyses of Social Issues and Public Policy. Dr. Price sits on the steering committee of Healthy Dearborn and the editorial board for Population Research and Policy Review, journal of the Southern Demographic Association. She teaches courses on contemporary social problems, gender roles, social demography, environmental sociology, and quantitative research methods.
