Julia Seng (IRWG, Nursing, Ob/Gyn, and Women's Studies) is the lead author of a book, titled Trauma Informed Care in the Perinatal Period, recently published by Dunedin Academic Press.

Synthesizing research that addresses the effects of trauma and PTSD on pregnant women and their babies during the perinatal period, the book is a manual for child welfare professionals and perinatal caregivers to help them put into practice, specific interventions to help improve intergenerational trajectories. “Its purpose is to facilitate interprofessional work with pregnant women who have a history of childhood maltreatment to help stop the cycles of abuse and psychiatric vulnerability by helping the new mother,” says Dr. Seng.
