Congratulations to Scott De Orio!
IRWG Research Affiliate Scott De Orio was recently awarded a postdoctoral fellowship from Northwestern University. The two-year position is with the Sexualities Project at Northwestern (SPAN), and was highly competitive -- only two fellows are selected each year. The postdoc is specifically geared towards scholars who study sexuality from a social science perspective, and will begin in Fall 2018.
During his fellowship, Dr. De Orio will be jointly affiliated with the Gender & Sexuality Studies Program and History Department, and will teach two undergraduate courses each year. He plans to spend the first year turning his dissertation, "Punishing Queer Sexuality in the Age of LGBT Rights," into a book. This project examines the changing ways in which campaigns against sex crime have targeted LGBTQ subjects in the U.S. since World War II.
Dr. De Orio earned his PhD in History and Women's Studies from the University of Michigan in 2017 and has spent this past academic year as an IRWG affiliate scholar and lecturer in Women's and Gender Studies at Central Michigan University. Learn more at his website, www.scottdeorio.com.
