Be a Victor for Gender Research
The Institute for Research on Women and Gender (IRWG) is the only university unit dedicated exclusively to support faculty and graduate student research on women, gender and sexuality.
Since our founding in 1995, IRWG has awarded over $3.5 million to nearly 500 U-M faculty researchers and graduate students. This direct research funding supports projects in the sciences, humanities, social sciences, and the arts.
IRWG-funded research has advanced knowledge in areas such as:
- the reluctance of domestic violence survivors to seek help
- substance use among young LGBTQ athletes
- the impact of gender on student learning in STEM fields
- a unique collection of oral histories of Chicana activists during the civil rights period
Research funded by donations to IRWG illuminates the lived experience of women and the workings of gender inequality throughout society and the world.
