About
My research addresses representations of gender transition and transformation in medieval European literature, viewing medieval texts through the lens of modern queer and trans theory. My work aims to empower modern trans people to see themselves in history, and to indicate and claim what feels familiar in premodern literature and culture. My most recent publication, 'Transgender mutation and the canon: Christine de Pizan’s Livre de la Mutacion de Fortune' was published in postmedieval in 2020. With Alicia Spencer-Hall (Queen Mary University of London) I co-edited a collection of essays entitled Trans and Genderqueer Subjects in Medieval Hagiography. The volume is forthcoming in April 2021 with Amsterdam University Press.
