About

Dr. Somers is an epidemiologist specializing in autoimmune, rheumatic, and musculoskeletal diseases. She is also the faculty lead for Interdisciplinary Research & Team Science in MICHR. Her work spans epidemiologic, clinical, and translational research, including pharmacoepidemiology and the design of clinical trials. Dr. Somers has a particular focus on systemic lupus erythematosus and women’s health issues, and directs the Michigan Lupus Epidemiology & Surveillance (MILES) Program. With expertise in public health surveillance and registries, she oversees the MICHR COVID-19 Rapid Response Registry and leads the University of Michigan partnership with the International Severe Acute Respiratory and Emerging Infection Consortium (ISARIC). She also directs interdisciplinary programming focused on improving quality of care and evidence-based research related to non-surgical management of idiopathic scoliosis.
