About
Dr. Watkins' research cultivates a deeper understanding of the influence of gender role socialization on health over the life course for marginalized boys and men. Her research focuses on generating knowledge about (1) the social determinants of health that explain within group differences among boys and men; (2) evidence-based strategies to improve the mental health of boys and men; and (3) the intersection of age, culture, and gender. She is a mixed methods expert who uses qualitative and quantitative data to increase knowledge about how intersecting social determinants and gender dynamics place marginalized males at high risk for poor health.
