Debotri Dhar

Lecturer, Women's and Gender Studies

Dr. Debotri Dhar earned a Masters in Women’s Studies, with Distinction, from Oxford University, and a Ph.D in Women’s and Gender Studies from Rutgers University. Her interdisciplinary research spans feminist theories; transnational feminisms; South Asia; women and literature; sexual violence and the state; gender and religion; and education. Dr. Dhar is the author of over a dozen book chapters and articles in journals such as Transformations, Feminist Formations, Postcolonial Text, and the editor of Education and Gender (London, New York: Bloomsbury) and of a collection of critical essays on love (New Delhi.) Her monograph on sexual violence and the postcolonial state is under contract with Routledge (London, New York, New Delhi). Dr. Dhar is also a published author of novels and short stories, such as The Courtesans of Karim Street and ‘A Flute Called Radha’ (Penguin Random House).
