About

Gonzalez’ research interests are in performance and cultural studies, particularly dialogic performance – the way in which communities perform one another. Recent academic publications are in the fields of African diaspora studies, Dance studies, and Maritime performance. Anita has authored two books along with essays about multi-cultural and international performance. Gonzalez’ creative writings focus on telling women’s stories and histories. Her current projects are the musical Ybor City, writing a new play inspired by Zora Neal Hurston, collaborations with storytelling scholars in South Africa and Ethiopia, and fostering new performances by the Anishinaabe Theatre Exchange. She continues to devise and write performance work for theatre, dance, musical theatre and opera.
